Raise Your Self-Esteem: The Ridiculous (and Successful) Way to Believe in Yourself

By: Shawne Poplar, MA LPC-S Licensed Professional Counselor

Self-esteem is an important aspect of overall mental and emotional well-being, but sometimes it can feel like an elusive goal. If you're struggling with low self-esteem and feeling like you're just not enough, it's time to give yourself a self-esteem boost!

Here are some cheeky (but totally effective) tips for improving your self-esteem:

Embrace Your Uniqueness

We all have our quirks and oddities, and that's what makes us one of a kind. Don't shy away from them – let your weirdness shine bright!

High-five Yourself for Victories, Big and Small

Sure, it's simple to get bogged down by failures, but don't forget to throw a mini celebration for your wins – whether it's acing a project or remembering to brush your teeth daily. Give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back.

Be Your Own BFF

Ask yourself: Would you chat with your best friend the way you talk to yourself? Probably not. Cut yourself some slack and dish out the same kindness and support you'd give to your buddy.

Practice Self-Care

Looking out for numero uno is crucial for beefing up that self-esteem. Be it getting adequate shut-eye, munching on nutritious grub, or indulging in activities that make your heart sing, make self-care your top priority.

Seek out positive relationships

Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people can do wonders for your self-esteem. Seek out relationships with people who uplift and encourage you, and avoid toxic or negative relationships.

Remember, boosting self-esteem is a journey, not a destination. Put in the time and effort, and watch yourself blossom into a more confident and capable version of you. So, go ahead, give yourself that well-deserved self-esteem boost – you've earned it!
